Funeral Prelude
Courtney chose these songs for the prelude today. Since not everyone knows them, we thought we would print some of the words so you know what is being played. It was the words, after all, that made Courtney love these songs, so we want to share with you not just the music, but the words as well.
#1 Nearer, Still Nearer Nearer
Nearer, still nearer, close to Thy heart, Draw me, my Saviour—so precious Thou art! Fold me, oh, fold me close to Thy breast. Shelter me safe in that ‘Haven of Rest’; Shelter me safe in that ‘Haven of Rest’.
Nearer, still nearer, while life shall last. Till safe in glory my anchor is cast; Through endless ages ever to be Nearer, my Saviour, still nearer to Thee; Nearer, my Saviour, still nearer to Thee!
#2 All the Way My Saviour Leads Me
All the way my Saviour leads me What have I to ask beside? Can I doubt His tender mercy, Who through life has been my Guide? Heav’nly peace, divinest comfort, Here by faith In Him to dwell! For I know, whate’er befall me, Jesus doeth all things well. For I know, whate’er befall me, Jesus doeth all things well.
All the way my Saviour leads me O the fullness of His love! Perfect rest to me is promised In my Father’s house above. When my spirit, clothed immortal, Wings its flight to realms of day This my song through endless ages: Jesus led me all the way. This my song through endless ages: Jesus led me all the way.
#3 Under His Wings
Under His wings I am safely abiding, Tho’ the night deepens and tempests are wild; Still I can trust Him – I know He will keep me, He has redeemed me and I am His child.
Chorus:
Under His wings, under His wings, Who from His love can sever? Under His wings my soul shall abide, Safely abide forever.
Under His wings, what a refuge in sorrow! How the heart yearningly turns to His rest! Often when earth has no balm for my healing, There I find comfort and there I am blest.
#4 Face to Face
Face to face with Christ, my Saviour, Face to face—what will it be, When with rapture I behold Him, Jesus Christ Who died for me?
Chorus:
Face to face I shall behold Him, Far beyond the starry sky; Face to face in all His glory, I shall see Him by and by!
What rejoicing in His presence, When are banished grief and pain; When the crooked ways are straightened, And the dark things shall be plain.
#5 Safe in the Arms of Jesus
Safe in the arms of Jesus, Safe on His gentle breast, There by His love o’ershaded, Sweetly my soul shall rest. Hark! ’tis the voice of angels, Borne in a song to me. Over the fields of glory, Over the jasper sea.
Chorus:
Safe in the arms of Jesus, Safe on His gentle breast There by His love o’ershaded, Sweetly my soul shall rest.
Jesus, my heart’s dear Refuge, Jesus has died for me; Firm on the Rock of Ages, Ever my trust shall be. Here let me wait with patience, Wait till the night is over; Wait till I see the morning Break on the golden shore.
#6 I Am His and He is Mine
“This is the song we were singing to Courtney when she took her last breath on this side and crossed over to Glory to hear (and join with) much better singing! “
Loved with everlasting love, Led by grace that love to know; Spirit breathing from above, Thou hast taught me it is so! O this full and perfect peace! O this transport all divine! In a love which cannot cease, I am His, and He is mine.
His forever, only His; Who the Lord and me shall part? Ah, with what a rest of bliss Christ can fill the loving heart! Heav’n and earth may fade and flee, Firstborn light in gloom decline; But while God and I shall be, I am His, and He is mine.
